Chapter 01 part i

[.: Brainstorm; random words :.]

Gossamer dreams of ember days,
ordinary ordinations gone ablaze,
and time lost to sand and haze,
has come to roost in deeper plays.

"Why am I here," asked Mary, as she stood on the beach.  There had been a point where Mary was quite certain of what she had been doing.  She was sure of it.  "I don't recall how I arrived here," stated Mary to her shadow.  Standing on the beach, letting the wind draw attention to her feet, Mary glanced at the designs drawn by waves from unknown shores.  Small eddies revealed shells, filling the spaces between her toes, and slowly she walked; the waves crashed gently to her right as the soft sun hid behind clouds and cast a shadow several feet ahead.

"Perhaps I shall run across someone whom I might recognize," said Mary, as she moved along the shore.  "At the very least, they might help me remember something."  As the beach slowly revealed a dune in the distance, the water gently lapped her feet.  Animals and other shapes seemed to form in the clouds above the small sand hill; the diminishing tide revealed a small path up the dune and Mary walked slowly.  Along the side of the path away from the beach lay a field of grass; flowers of varying shades lay in patches, punctuating the field with thoughtful petals.  Enjoying the scent of marigolds, orchids, and small blue flowers, Mary made her walk along the path.  "This is quite lovely," remarked Mary, as small bricks shown through the flattened rocks.  "I wonder if they were planted or are simply here accidentally."

Bricks of differing colors shown between the ever-diminishing polished rocks as the path led away from the beach.  "I hope there is some kind of marker atop this hill," thought Mary as she thirstily opened the small flask of water in her right hand.  "Perhaps I will find some way to ensure this is filled."  Stepping slowly along the path, Mary looked up to see a large boulder on the right side of the path.  Steps had been carved out of the inside of the boulder; the marks were straight and long and seemed to have been created with a tool.  On the other side of the boulder lay a path.  "I wonder which way would be best," considered Mary as she smartly considered her choices.

: here is where you, the reader, come in :
: which should she choose :

1] Mary could keep on the original path.
She continued along the path, hoping the top of the hill retained a view that would offer more understanding of her current situation.  "I do believe that whoever carved that path might mean me harm," thought Mary as she continued to follow the path.  "I have seen the dry side of sea," said Mary as her steps took her away from the field.  "I believe the top of the dune is my best course of action."

2] Mary could venture through the boulder's path and seek out the new path.

"I wonder who carved out this path," thought Mary as she grabbed hold of either side of the boulder.  The smooth rock seemed to fit perfectly with the path and as she jumped off the boulder, the soft landing drew her attention toward the path.

3] Mary could turn around, choosing instead to follow the beach.
As the sun began its path toward the horizon, Mary thought to herself "I seem to recall trees on the other side of that meadow.  Perhaps I can build something of a shelter."  Turning around, Mary made her way toward the darker bricks along the path.  Sunlight seemed to fill the meadow as she turned right towards the sunlight-covered branches.

4] Mary could ____ what?  Is there something you feel Mary would do next instead?
