 A horror story for a vampire - or perhaps a vampire-sympathizing human

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"I hate this time of year," thought Edwin, as he mindlessly sat in the tree, draining all the blood from the human. Wiping his right arm over his mouth, Edwin threw the body several feet into the air where it landed with a wet thud in the open grave. Looking toward the pile, Edwin eyed the edge of the rectangular pit.

"You can't trust who's in-family without almost overkilling the crop," said Edwin. "However, my newest creations should take care of the overflow." Calling into the night, Edwin beckoned to the darkness. "Come my sweet babies. Come to me!"

At first one, then ten, then a dozen groups of pink pigs squealed with glee and lust, careening for Edwin. The first arrival approached Edwin quickly and began running around Edwin in circles. The air pregnant with the smell of running dead pig, Edwin waited until they reached a fever pitch and flew at eye level.

Pointing at the deep pit, Edwin commanded *FEAST*. The pigs, en-masse, gleefully ran and flew to the bodies. The first layer of arms, legs, and faces quickly fell to the ravenous hunger of the vampiric pigs. Soon the first foot of the pit was cleared, and Edwin could see clearly the edges of the pit. Different body parts lay randomly strewn, a grisly cross-stitch of entrails, and Edwin stood atop pile surveying the remains.

He first noticed the arrow in his left foot when he tried to fly out of the pit. Looking down at the silver shaft, he quickly looked up to seek the source of the missile - and looked deep into the eyes of his hated foes. The band of four immortal archers, each one on a different side of the pit, had their bows trained on him. Edward quickly pivoted in the air, ripping his foot through the arrow, and sent his pigs toward the archers. However, the pigs had just fed and were sluggish. Edwin's last thought was "I hate this time of year."
